Whistle While You Work

Yesterday was an extremely fun and productive day for the StyleListe team!  Kristen, Elias and Annalicia—our new intern—planned and finalized a lot of exciting content for the first issue of the magazine.  (Jen couldn’t be there because of car problems—we missed you Jen!)

Our first issue is set to come out end of May and is going to be online, allowing all of you to access it!  We are really excited about all of the features and interactive accessories that the online version is going to offer, and we know you’re going to love it too!  This first issue focuses on Spring/Summer trends and where you can find these things in Utah, so make sure you check it out for all of your season needs.

Also!  We’re already working hard on our Fall issue, and you really don’t want to miss out on this one.  The Fall issue is going to be our first—drum roll, please—large and in charge printed issue!  With every issue, we are going to offer the same online versions with interactive parts as well as a big, glossy printed version, starting with the Fall issue.  Fall is due out in August, right before the weather starts getting cold and you are forced to pile on the clothes once again!

We are just really excited about all of the progress the magazine is making and can’t wait for you to see the final product!  Keep checking back here for more updates and chic ideas from us!

Wrapping-Up the Red Carpet: Oscars 2010

Keeping with the current trends of simplicity and ease, the Oscars red carpet definitely did not see celebrities donning eccentric outfits or funky frocks.  No one attempted to top Björk’s swan dress, but then again, that’s probably a good thing.  Most of the lovely ladies gracefully walked down the rouge road in flattering, uncomplicated dresses.  Although the celebs in the past who have dared to be different usually get bombarded with negative feedback, at least their bravery provides a small amount of entertainment for the common folk back home.

However, there were a few out of the many who truly stood out and made lasting impressions with their elegance and grandeur.  Sandra Bullock, who won the Oscar for best female actress, stunned the crowds in her sleek, silvery Marchesa gown.  Sarah Jessica Parker paid homage to her Sex and the City persona in a uniquely draped, striking Chanel Couture dress.  Diane Kruger’s Chanel gown commanded attention with its high neckline, multi-textures, and randomly-placed body cinches.  

Only a few strayed from the monochromatic color schemes this year.  Maggie Gyllenhaal, who is always the first to break the mainstream trends in fashion, wore a long body con tropical print Dries Van Noten gown, and was the only star to embrace that quirky spring trend.  The classically gorgeous Rachel McAdams also wore a patterned dress, but stuck with the popular spring pastel palette in a flowing Elie Saab number.  Rachel effectively showed how muted pastels give a fresh but subtle update for the upcoming spring season.

The spring/summer season colors are all about nudes, blush pinks, and steering clear of the overly used black.  Luxurious dresses in nude shades were seen on the likes of Cameron Diaz, who wore a sparkly Oscar de la Renta gown, to Miley Cyrus, who wore a bustier-topped Jenny Packham gown.  The most outstanding, and certainly most up-to-trend gowns, were those of Anna Kendrick from Twilight and Up in the Air, and Demi Moore, who both graced the red carpet in gauzy, blush pink dresses designed by Elie Saab and Versace respectively.  

Thankfully, it looks like the age of the grunge is leaving, and the dawn of the feminine and lady-like looks are coming back in style.  Many of the stars, including Sandra Bullock, Cameron Diaz, and even the zany Zoe Kravitz, emulated looks from old Hollywood with soft, flowing hair, a splash of deep red on their lips or dresses, and a classic, rather than trendy, overall look. 

And if you just can’t get enough of that accentuated, detailed shoulder, don’t worry because it looks like it’s still in style and going strong.  The hilarious Tina Fey wore a one-shouldered embellished Michael Kors dress, and the ever-dazzling Oscar winner Sandra Bullock showed how asymmetrical sleeves with ornate designs is really a trend that needs to stay around for awhile, and we fully approve of that.
